EVgo and real estate investment fund Regency Centers Corporation have expanded their partnership to install more than 400 new fast charging stalls at Regency shopping centres across the United States. The rollout will increase Regency's EV infrastructure footprint by over 20% and span urban centres in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. EVgo currently operates more than 150 stalls at Regency locations, having installed its first charger at a Regency centre in 2020.
Why it matters: The deal underscores the commercial case for fast charging at retail destinations, with EVgo citing dwell time data showing approximately half of drivers who stop at a site enter nearby retail locations or restaurants. For CPOs and site hosts, the partnership model demonstrates how grocery anchored shopping centres can serve as anchor tenants for public charging infrastructure at scale.
