France targets 30,000 fast chargers on state roads by 2035, including 8,000 for trucks
The French government has unveiled a master plan to deploy around 30,000 fast-charging points on its state-owned road network by 2035, comprising roughly 22,000 passenger-car chargers at 150 kW and 8,000 dedicated truck chargers. The network, which covers approximately 20,000 kilometres of motorways and national highways and carries one-third of France's traffic, currently hosts around 4,500 charging points across 420 service areas. Officials say the plan represents a fivefold increase in capacity over ten years, with rollout speed set to double compared to the past five years.
Why it matters
The commitment to 8,000 truck chargers marks one of Europe's first large-scale heavy-duty charging programmes, opening a significant procurement pipeline for high-power equipment and grid connections. CPOs and suppliers targeting long-distance and freight corridors will face accelerated tender cycles as France doubles its deployment pace on high-traffic routes.
