Geely launches 2,250 kW charger claiming 10 to 97 per cent charge in under nine minutes
Geely has unveiled a 2,250 kW Smart Charging station that can recharge an electric car from 10 to 97 per cent in 8 minutes 40 seconds, surpassing BYD's 1,500 kW Flashing Charging system that takes nine minutes for the same top up. The technology, tested on Lynk and Co 10 and Zeekr 001 SUVs, uses AI algorithms to predict battery temperature changes and adjust power delivery, keeping average charging temperature below 55 degrees celsius. A 10 to 70 per cent charge takes less than five minutes, supported by an end to end five point liquid cooling system across the charging chain.
Why it matters
Geely's 2,250 kW output sets a new benchmark for ultra rapid charging infrastructure, potentially reshaping procurement specifications and site design requirements for charge point operators targeting premium or fleet segments. The AI driven thermal management approach may influence future technical standards and warranty considerations in high power charging tenders.
Global EV charging stations market forecast to grow from 21.5 billion dollars in 2025 to 167 billion dollars by 2033
DataM Intelligence reports the global EV charging stations market was valued at 21.5 billion dollars in 2025 and is projected to reach 167 billion dollars by 2033, representing a compound annual growth rate of 28 per cent during the 2026 to 2033 period. The expansion is attributed to the rollout of ultra fast charging infrastructure.
Why it matters
The forecast signals sustained procurement opportunities across all charging segments over the next decade, with ultra fast infrastructure likely to command premium contract values. CPOs and suppliers planning capital allocation or network expansion can benchmark their growth assumptions against this 28 per cent annual market trajectory.
