I-95 travel plaza near Newark opens new EV charging stations

A travel plaza on Interstate 95 near Newark has opened new electric vehicle charging stations, according to the Newark Post. The article does not specify the number of chargers installed or the operator of the site.

Why it matters

Highway rest stop charging infrastructure is critical for long distance EV travel, and I-95 corridor sites serve one of the busiest freight and passenger routes on the US East Coast. The deployment signals continued build out of public fast charging networks at strategic travel nodes.

Sound Transit breaks ground on Renton Transit Center for battery-electric double-decker bus service

Sound Transit and the City of Renton have begun construction on the new Renton Transit Center, scheduled to open in 2028, which will serve as a hub for the Stride S1 line. The S1 will operate Sound Transit's first battery-electric double-decker buses running every 10 to 15 minutes for over 17 hours daily, connecting Burien and Bellevue via Renton. The Stride bus rapid transit system received voter approval in 2016, with planning starting in 2018 and design completed between 2021 and 2024.

Why it matters

The project signals a major procurement opportunity for electric bus charging infrastructure at a regional transit hub expected to support high-frequency service over extended operating hours. CPOs and suppliers should note the 2028 timeline for a facility designed to accommodate double-decker battery-electric vehicles, which may require specialised charging solutions for larger battery capacities.
