California clean truck and bus incentive programme passes $1 billion in funding

The California Air Resources Board announced that its Clean Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project has delivered more than $1 billion in funding to California fleets, supporting over 2,000 fleets and enabling deployment of 11,600 clean vehicles that have accumulated 181 million miles statewide. The programme, administered by CALSTART on behalf of CARB, focuses on medium and heavy duty trucks and buses, reducing emissions and improving air quality in communities most affected by freight and transportation pollution.

Why it matters

The milestone demonstrates sustained public funding for commercial fleet electrification in the largest US vehicle market, signalling continued procurement opportunities for charging infrastructure providers serving medium and heavy duty applications. With demand at an all time high, the programme's scale points to growing requirements for depot charging and grid upgrades to support thousands of additional zero emission commercial vehicles.
