New York City awards It's Electric contract for 700 curbside EV chargers across five boroughs
Brooklyn-based startup It's Electric will install 700 Level 2 curbside chargers across New York City over the next three years, targeting neighbourhoods with high concentrations of rideshare drivers. The deployment aims to address charging access for street parkers in a city where off-street parking is scarce, bringing European-style curbside infrastructure to a U.S. market where such provision remains rare outside Los Angeles.
Why it matters
The contract signals a major municipal procurement shift towards distributed, on-street charging in dense urban areas, creating a replicable model for other U.S. cities with limited private parking. For charge-point operators and hardware suppliers, it opens a new channel in markets previously considered too complex for scalable curbside rollout.
New York awards it's electric 600 curbside charger contract amid public space debate
Brooklyn firm it's electric will install 600 curbside EV charging posts across New York City under a contract to be announced on Tuesday, expanding from an 88 point pilot operated by FLO. Pedestrian and street safety groups, including Open Plans, argue the permanent infrastructure locks public kerb space into car parking rather than allowing future use for bike lanes, bus lanes or street amenities.
Why it matters
The 600 unit rollout marks a significant municipal procurement win for it's electric and signals accelerating US city investment in on street charging infrastructure, though opposition from advocacy groups may shape future tender requirements or site selection criteria for CPOs and contractors.
Ionna tops JD Power public charging satisfaction study, ahead of Tesla Supercharger network
JD Power's latest study found Ionna, the charging network backed by eight automakers including GM, Honda and Stellantis, scored highest for overall satisfaction among national DC fast charging networks in the United States, surpassing Tesla's Supercharger network. The study reported the lowest rate of visits where drivers could not charge since tracking began, with improvements in satisfaction around charging costs and safety. Ionna offers chargers delivering up to 400 kW and does not require a dedicated app or subscription, with locations typically featuring food, drink and restroom facilities.
Why it matters
The findings signal that non-Tesla networks are closing the reliability and user experience gap, potentially influencing procurement decisions for CPOs evaluating which hardware and network partnerships deliver the highest customer satisfaction. Ionna's app-free model and amenity-rich sites may set a new benchmark for site design and operational standards in the competitive DC fast charging market.

Volvo drops EX40 from US lineup, pushing entry EV price to nearly $60,000
Volvo is removing the EX40 from its United States and Canada lineup after the 2027 model year, following the earlier axing of the EX30. The move leaves the EX60, starting at $59,795 including destination, as Volvo's cheapest EV in the American market, up from the EX40's $56,545 entry price. The EX60 offers a slightly longer EPA range of 307 miles compared with the EX40's 296 miles, and Volvo is reportedly developing an EX50 crossover that could debut by the end of 2027 for under $50,000.
Why it matters
The pricing shift narrows Volvo's appeal in the competitive US EV market and may slow fleet or municipal adoption where budget constraints favour sub $60,000 models. A sub $50,000 EX50 arriving in late 2027 could reopen opportunities for charge point operators targeting mid market EV drivers at workplace or public sites.
