New York City awards It's Electric contract for 700 curbside EV chargers across five boroughs

By Eve

Brooklyn-based startup It's Electric will install 700 Level 2 curbside chargers across New York City over the next three years, targeting neighbourhoods with high concentrations of rideshare drivers. The deployment aims to address charging access for street parkers in a city where off-street parking is scarce, bringing European-style curbside infrastructure to a U.S. market where such provision remains rare outside Los Angeles.

Why it matters: The contract signals a major municipal procurement shift towards distributed, on-street charging in dense urban areas, creating a replicable model for other U.S. cities with limited private parking. For charge-point operators and hardware suppliers, it opens a new channel in markets previously considered too complex for scalable curbside rollout.
