BYD Seagull charges 10% to 70% in five minutes on proprietary Flash Charging network
By Eve
BYD's refreshed Seagull electric car, priced from 65,900 yuan to 99,900 yuan (approximately $9,810 to $15,000) in China, offers a five minute charge from 10% to 70% on its Flash Charging network, according to New Atlas. The rapid charging capability applies only to the upper three trims equipped with a 39.2 kilowatt hour battery and 261 mile CLTC range, while cheaper models use a 30.1 kWh battery without Flash charging support.
Why it matters
BYD's proprietary charging infrastructure creates a closed ecosystem that could influence procurement decisions for fleet operators in China and signals a manufacturer led approach to ultra rapid charging that may challenge open network CPOs.

BYD confirms suicide doors and a gemstone grille for the Yangwang Altior flagship sedan
Yangwang general manager Hu Xiaoqing confirmed on Friday that the new Altior will have suicide doors, a first for a BYD model, opening nearly 90 degrees. He also posted a preview of the front fascia, which has a dot-matrix grille and crystal-inspired headlights. Yangwang is BYD's ultra-luxury brand, whose earlier models have debuted with the quad-motor e4 platform (over 1,300 hp), second-generation Blade Batteries and Flash Charging, and the DiSus-X body control system, and the excerpt says the Altior may use solid-state batteries.
Why it matters
Yangwang launches have tended to carry BYD's newest battery and charging technology, so the Altior is worth watching as a signal of where its charging requirements may head. The excerpt gives no charging specifications for the Altior, so CPOs and procurement teams should treat any compatibility implications as unconfirmed for now.
BYD and Gentari to deploy 1,500 kW Flash Charging network in Malaysia, starting with Denza showrooms
BYD Malaysia and Gentari have signed an MoU to roll out BYD Flash Charging infrastructure across Malaysia, beginning with Denza showrooms and later expanding to Petronas sites and highway rest areas. The ultra-fast DC chargers operate at up to 1,500 kW and can charge compatible vehicles such as the Denza Z9GT from 10% to 70% state of charge in five minutes and to 97% in nine minutes. The collaboration will also explore battery energy storage systems to support the technology without straining the grid.
Why it matters
This deployment introduces some of the fastest charging speeds globally to Malaysia's public network, potentially reducing dwell times at charging sites and accelerating fleet and passenger EV adoption. The partnership between an automaker and Petronas-backed Gentari signals a strategic push to align charging infrastructure with high-power vehicle platforms entering the market.

BYD workforce hits 1.02 million, exceeding Toyota, GM, Ford and Tesla combined
BYD now employs more than 1.02 million people, including up to 120,000 R&D engineers, chairman Wang Chuanfu told the China Society of Automotive Engineers' 33rd annual conference on Wednesday. The Chinese automaker added roughly 150,000 staff in 10 months despite falling vehicle sales, bringing its total above the combined headcount of Toyota, GM, Ford and Tesla. Around 960,000 work in China and 60,000 abroad, with R&D focused on battery cells, motors, electronic controls and semiconductors.
Why it matters
BYD's vertical integration strategy, keeping batteries, chips and motors in house, underpins its scale and signals intensifying competition for EV supply chain talent and manufacturing capacity. The workforce expansion, even as sales dip, suggests the company is investing heavily in R&D and production infrastructure that could reshape global EV and charging component markets.
