BYD launches 1,500 kW charger and 450 mile battery with 10 minute charge time

Chinese EV manufacturer BYD has unveiled a 1,500 kW flash charging system alongside its Blade Battery 2.0, which offers over 450 miles of range under US EPA equivalent testing. The charger can replenish the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes or 10% to 97% in nine minutes, with the new battery already slated for installation in 10 production models including the Yangwang U7 and Denza Z9GT. BYD states the new battery generation is cheaper than its predecessor.
Why it matters: The 1,500 kW charging standard sets a new benchmark that could reshape infrastructure specifications for CPOs and procurement teams planning ultra fast charging networks. BYD's position as the world's largest EV maker and immediate production readiness across 10 models signals this technology will drive real deployment demand rather than remain a prototype.
