BYD wins Taranto tender for six electric buses and three charging points worth €3.1 million
By Eve
The Municipality of Taranto has awarded BYD Europe a contract to supply six 12 metre electric buses and three charging points to Kyma Mobilità for €3,122,250.00, against a total contract value of €3,810,000.00. BYD scored 85.54 points, narrowly beating KMobility (Karsan dealer) on 85.17 points, with the award decision published ten months after the tender was announced in April 2025. The tender specified Class I battery electric buses with 11.70 to 13.50 metre length and at least 80 passenger capacity, with BYD proposing its eBus B12.b model.
Why it matters
The contract demonstrates BYD's competitive strength in southern Italian municipal tenders and confirms demand for depot charging infrastructure alongside fleet procurement. The narrow margin of victory and the range of bidders, including Iveco and Turkish manufacturer Karsan, highlight intensifying competition in the European electric bus market.

Leapmotor B03X launches in Australia from $29,990, undercutting BYD Atto 2
Chinese EV maker Leapmotor will launch its B03X electric SUV in Australia in November 2025, priced from $29,990 drive away, below the 2026 BYD Atto 2 Dynamic. The B03X Style offers 292 km WLTP range from a 39.8 kWh LFP battery and 130 kW motor, while the Design LR variant extends range to 382 km with a 53 kWh battery and 145 kW motor. Both variants support DC fast charging at up to 100 kW and 133 kW respectively, charging from 30 to 80 per cent in around 16 minutes, and include 3.3 kW vehicle to load capability.
Why it matters
The sub $30,000 price point and fast charging capability may accelerate demand for home and workplace charging infrastructure in Australia's small SUV segment. Fleet operators and charging network planners should monitor uptake of this model as it competes directly with BYD in the budget EV market.
Suzuki launches e SKY mini EV at $13,500 with BYD batteries, undercutting BYD's own Racco
Suzuki will launch the e SKY, its first electric kei car, on 16 November at around 2.12 million yen ($13,500), narrowly undercutting BYD's Racco EV at 2.145 million yen ($13,600) to become Japan's cheapest mini EV, according to Nikkei. The e SKY offers a WLTC range of up to 310 km (192 miles) and uses lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by BYD's battery unit. With potential government subsidies of 568,000 yen, the e SKY could cost about the same as Suzuki's petrol Spacia, which starts at 1.53 million yen (slightly under $10,000).
Why it matters
Ultra-low-cost EVs like the e SKY signal intensifying price competition in Japan's kei segment, where affordability and subsidy eligibility will shape fleet and consumer adoption. Procurement teams evaluating light commercial or urban fleets should monitor whether similar pricing and BYD battery partnerships emerge in other markets.
Tesla and Chinese brands lead UK electric car sales in record breaking September
More than 99,000 new electric cars were sold in the UK in September, alongside almost 5,000 zero emission vans, following the introduction of the new 76 number plate. Tesla led the market with a combined 15,875 sales from its Model 3 and Model Y, while several Chinese brands also saw a surge in demand. The figures were reported by GB News.
Why it matters
Record monthly EV registrations of this scale signal accelerating charging demand across the UK, and the dominance of Tesla and Chinese brands shapes which connector standards, payment integrations and co location partnerships CPOs and site hosts should prioritise.
