California passes 2.5 million cumulative ZEV sales with 18.9% market share in Q4 2025

California surpassed 2.5 million cumulative zero emission vehicle sales in 2025, with 79,066 new ZEVs sold in the fourth quarter representing 18.9% of all new vehicle sales, according to the California Energy Commission. Cumulative ZEV sales have grown by more than 300% since 2019, driven by state investment in charging infrastructure, with 149 ZEV models available in Q4 2025. The performance came despite the expiry of federal ZEV incentives in September 2025, which contributed to national ZEV sales falling to 5.8% in Q4 from 10.5% in Q3.
