Kia PV5 Passenger seven-seat EV qualifies for £1,500 Electric Car Grant

By Eve

Kia's seven-seat PV5 Passenger electric people carrier now qualifies for the UK Government's Band 2 Electric Car Grant, cutting the on-the-road price by £1,500 to £35,495. The model features a 71.2 kWh battery offering up to 246 miles of range (WLTP) and 150 kW DC charging (10% to 80% in under 30 minutes), with flexible seating for families, shuttle operators, ride-hailing and airport transfers. The grant applies to all grades, including the new Elite trim.

Why it matters

The grant eligibility opens a lower-cost route for fleet operators and shared-mobility providers to deploy seven-seat electric vehicles, potentially accelerating electrification in shuttle, airport and ride-hailing segments. The 150 kW charging capability and sub-30-minute top-up align with commercial duty cycles, making the PV5 a practical option for high-utilisation fleets seeking grant-supported procurement.

Kia EV3 arrives at US dealerships after Mexico production announcement

The Kia EV3, which won World Car of the Year in 2025 and the Golden Steering Wheel award in 2024, is now available at US dealerships. The model will be built in Mexico for the North American market, as announced two months prior. The EV3 was initially launched three years ago with no indication it would reach the US market.

Why it matters

A World Car of the Year winner entering US showrooms signals fresh competition in the compact EV segment, potentially driving demand for charging infrastructure scaled to smaller, more efficient vehicles. CPOs and site hosts may see new traffic patterns if the model gains traction despite traditional US preference for larger vehicles.

Kia expects EV3 to become its top-selling electric model in the US

Kia anticipates its EV3, launched in the US in August, will become its best-selling electric vehicle in the country, according to senior product planning manager Young Kim. The model has already achieved this status in Europe, where it was the Hyundai Motor Group's top electric seller in the first half of 2026 with 27,000 sales. The optimism contrasts with subdued rollouts of other affordable EVs, including the new Chevy Bolt, which GM said would have only a limited run to 2027, and the Nissan Leaf, which has sold just 2,318 units in the US this year.

Why it matters

Kia's confidence in the EV3 signals a potential bright spot for affordable EV demand in a market where other manufacturers are scaling back similar offerings. The model's European success and planned US expansion could influence charging infrastructure planning and procurement strategies for networks targeting mass-market EV drivers.

Kia EV2 logs 3,386 UK registrations as brand captures 4.8 per cent of European EV market

Kia reported 3,386 UK registrations for its EV2 compact electric SUV year to date, including 1,753 in September alone, when it became the country's most popular retail market EV with 1,429 units. The model went on sale in Europe and the UK in April and delivered over 8,000 units in its first three full months. Kia's European EV registrations rose 58 per cent year on year through August, giving the brand a 4.8 per cent share and seventh place overall, with particularly strong growth in France, Germany, the UK, Spain and Italy.

Why it matters

The rapid uptake of a new entry level electric SUV signals sustained retail appetite for affordable EVs and underscores the infrastructure demand that will follow as Kia expands its electric range across Europe. Charge point operators and site hosts should note the brand's momentum in key markets where deployment pipelines are already stretched.
