Clean Motion trials battery swapping for solar delivery vans in Stockholm

Swedish manufacturer Clean Motion has equipped its EVIG lightweight electric vehicle with a swappable battery and launched real world trials in Stockholm, using GoCimo's existing battery swapping infrastructure. The vehicle, which offers a range of 100 to 150 kilometres depending on configuration, is being tested in Foodora's urban delivery operations as part of the STOLT research project. The project spent twelve months adapting the battery, mechanics and interfaces to enable EVIG to use the same swappable batteries as GoCimo's electric scooter network, aiming to extend the battery swapping concept to light electric commercial vehicles.
Why it matters: The trial demonstrates how existing battery swapping infrastructure can be adapted for light commercial EVs, potentially reducing the need for dedicated charging points in urban delivery fleets. For CPOs and fleet operators, the approach offers a model for eliminating charging downtime in high utilisation commercial operations.
