Daimler Buses wins 26 electric bus contract from VBSG after Ebusco deal falls through

By Eve

Switzerland's VBSG public transport operator has awarded Daimler Buses Schweiz a contract for 26 battery-electric buses, comprising 16 standard 12-metre buses and 10 articulated 18-metre buses, all depot-charged. The procurement follows the revocation of an earlier contract with Ebusco, which could not fulfil its obligations for financial reasons before any vehicles were delivered. The order includes options for up to 20 additional vehicles and supports VBSG's goal to electrify its entire fleet by 2032 under St. Gallen's Energy Concept 2050.

Why it matters: The contract switch from Ebusco to Daimler highlights financial stability as a critical tender evaluation factor for public operators pursuing fleet electrification. With options for 20 more units, the framework offers insight into how Swiss procurers are structuring flexible, long-term electric bus supply agreements to meet 2032 zero-emission deadlines.
