European countries registered 1.2 million new battery electric vehicles in the first six months of 2026, a 33.7 percent increase on the same period in 2025, according to a report by E-Mobility Europe, New Automotive and FIER Automotive. June saw 275,060 new BEV registrations, up 39.5 percent year on year and 29.5 percent on May 2026, pushing the EU BEV market share to 27.4 percent. France recorded its highest ever monthly total with 55,831 BEVs in June, representing 29.6 percent of all new vehicle registrations.

Why it matters: Accelerating BEV adoption across Europe signals sustained demand for public and workplace charging infrastructure, with higher registration volumes requiring faster network expansion to support new drivers. The 27.4 percent market share underscores the urgency for CPOs and site hosts to secure grid connections and planning consents ahead of further growth.
