Delhi prepares four new depots as 8,000 bus EV fleet target nears

By Eve

Four electric bus depots in Nangloi, Dwarka, Kohat Enclave and Rithala are complete and awaiting handover, according to Delhi Transport Department officials. The city has inducted over 3,500 electric buses in recent months and expects to expand the fleet to about 8,000 by year end, requiring additional parking and charging infrastructure across more than 10 dedicated depots already in operation.

Why it matters

The 8,000 bus rollout represents one of the largest municipal EV procurements globally and will drive depot charging tenders across multiple sites. Contractors and charge point operators should monitor handover timelines, as the four new depots will need full charging installations before buses can be deployed.
