German haulier Spedition Stickel deploys ten battery-electric trucks and joins grid-supportive charging trial

By Eve

Spedition Stickel, a logistics firm near Stuttgart with 69 trucks and €15 million annual turnover, now runs ten battery-electric vehicles daily and is participating in a NetzeBW real-world laboratory testing grid-supportive charging. The company began discussions with energy provider EnBW in 2020, when the technology was deemed too costly for a medium-sized operator with around 100 employees, but has since committed to electrification following the energy crisis and internal sustainability pressure.

Why it matters

The case shows a mid-sized fleet operator overcoming early cost barriers to deploy double-digit electric truck numbers, signalling growing demand for depot charging infrastructure and grid-integration solutions. Participation in the NetzeBW trial highlights utility interest in managed charging to balance network loads as commercial EV adoption scales.
