Haryana identifies government land for free public EV charging under PM e-Drive scheme

Haryana's power distribution utilities have started identifying government land parcels, including office premises, to deploy free public EV charging stations under the Centre's PM e-Drive scheme, which carries a nationwide outlay of ₹2,000 crore in Central support. Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, appointed nodal agency in February, will execute the project, with final site numbers to be determined after Haryana submits identified locations to the Ministry of Heavy Industries. Gurugram currently has around 130 to 150 EV charging connectors at mostly private locations and no publicly accessible free stations, while the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram is separately deploying 15 charging stations with CESL, expected operational by end 2025.
Why it matters: The site identification phase signals imminent procurement activity under a ₹2,000 crore national programme, creating opportunities for CPOs and equipment suppliers as Haryana moves from planning to tender stage. The parallel MCG and CESL rollout of 15 stations demonstrates multiple procurement pathways opening in a state where public charging infrastructure remains minimal.
