India registered 1,541,377 electric vehicles between January and June 2026, a 43% increase on the same period in 2025, according to JMK Research. EV penetration reached 11.43% in the first half of 2026, up from 8% a year earlier. Electric two wheelers accounted for 62.53% of registrations in H1 2026, supported by promotional offers ahead of the March 2026 PM E-Drive scheme deadline, while the Delhi EV Policy 2026 has committed INR 15,000 crore (US$1.8 billion) to EV adoption and Bihar aims for 30% EV penetration in new vehicle sales by 2030.

Why it matters: Sustained double digit growth and rising penetration rates signal expanding demand for charging infrastructure across India's urban and intercity corridors. State level policy commitments and commercial fleet deployments will drive procurement opportunities for charge point operators through the second half of 2026.
