Punjab approves e-bike scheme for government staff and 714 electric buses across 10 districts

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved an electric bike purchase scheme for government employees, allowing payment by instalment, and greenlit the deployment of 714 electric buses in 10 districts including Attock, Gujranwala and Sialkot. Officials expect 100 buses to arrive this month, 350 by mid May and 264 by end June, with dedicated depots planned in every division. The decisions were announced following a high level transport sector meeting.
Why it matters: The 714 bus order represents a substantial fleet electrification tender in Pakistan, signalling depot infrastructure and charging demand across multiple districts. The employee e-bike scheme may also drive light EV adoption and associated workplace charging requirements in the public sector.
