Four premium electric SUVs target US suburban families as luxury segment reaches 2 million annual sales

By Eve

BMW iX3, Volvo EX60, Mercedes-Benz Electric GLC and Rivian R2 are launching in 2026 to compete for the US luxury SUV segment, which accounts for 12% of new vehicle sales or approximately 2 million units annually. US Census Bureau data shows around 40% of single-family homes include children under 18, making the segment attractive for models designed around school runs, commuting and home charging. The vehicles were approved for development three to seven years ago under different incentive and regulatory conditions.

Why it matters: A wave of premium electric SUVs targeting 2 million annual luxury sales creates fresh demand for residential charging infrastructure in suburban single-family homes. CPOs and installers should anticipate increased home charger deployment as these models reach driveways in 2026, particularly in family-oriented suburban markets.
