PURPLE BUS launches Maharashtra's first private electric intercity service with 14 Switch Mobility buses on Pune to Mumbai route

By Eve

PURPLE BUS has introduced 14 electric buses manufactured by Switch Mobility on the Pune to Mumbai shuttle route, marking the first privately operated electric intercity service in Maharashtra. The fleet was flagged off by Madhuri Misal, Minister of State for Urban Development. PURPLE BUS currently operates over 1,500 buses across India.

Why it matters: The deployment demonstrates private sector entry into electric intercity transport and signals potential charging infrastructure demand along the high traffic Pune to Mumbai corridor. Operators and CPOs may see opportunities to support similar private fleet electrification as the model scales beyond Maharashtra's initial 14 unit rollout.
