Europe registered 23,700 zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles in 2025 as ZE truck share climbed to 4.5 per cent

Over 23,700 new zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles were registered across Europe in 2025, with ZE trucks above 3.5 tonnes reaching a 4.5 per cent sales share, up from 2.5 per cent in 2024, according to a March 2026 report by Eamonn Mulholland and Malo Benoit. ZE buses and coaches captured 24.8 per cent of sales, rising from 18.5 per cent in 2024, while the medium truck and van segment (3.5 to 12 tonnes) saw its ZE share more than double from 10.4 per cent to 21.0 per cent. Mercedes sold 1,400 ZE heavy trucks in the second half of 2025 alone, a threefold increase over its full 2024 total, likely driven by a 15 per cent CO2 reduction target that took effect on 1 July.
