SwRI and SMU collaborate on nanoscale film architecture for solid-state battery anodes

Southwest Research Institute and Southern Methodist University are developing a design architecture for solid-state batteries, focusing on the interface between lithium metal anodes and solid electrolytes. The work addresses manufacturing and materials challenges that have prevented wide commercialisation, particularly the unstable interface and dendrite formation that compromise battery performance and stability. Solid-state batteries promise faster charging, higher energy density and improved safety for electric vehicles by replacing liquid electrolytes with solid materials.
