UK EV charging sector sees supportive policy environment in 2025 with £63 million infrastructure allocation

The UK EV charging infrastructure sector experienced a broadly positive 2025, underpinned by supportive government policy including the allocation of £63 million for EV charging infrastructure. Zapmap CEO Melanie Shufflebotham highlighted that despite additional flexibilities for car manufacturers, the ZEV mandate positions the UK with some of the most forward looking EV policies globally. In April 2025, the government announced new mandate parameters allowing the sale of hybrid electric vehicles and ICE vans until 2035.

Why it matters: The £63 million allocation and stable policy framework signal continued public sector commitment to charging infrastructure, creating investment confidence for CPOs and contractors bidding on UK projects. The contrast with other regions weakening EV mandates positions the UK as a more predictable market for long term infrastructure planning and procurement.
