Verona deploys 34 BYD electric buses with structural batteries and 530 km range

By Eve

The Italian city of Verona has put 34 BYD electric buses into service, featuring structural battery technology and a range of up to 530 km. The deployment was reported by mobilityportal.eu and represents a significant fleet addition for the city's public transport network. The buses use BYD's integrated battery design, which incorporates the battery pack as a structural component of the vehicle.

Why it matters

This rollout demonstrates growing European municipal confidence in Chinese EV technology for heavy duty transit applications, with the extended 530 km range potentially reducing charging infrastructure requirements. Procurement teams evaluating bus electrification can benchmark Verona's structural battery choice against traditional battery configurations for total cost of ownership.

BYD unveils third generation Tang SUV interior with 35.4 inch and 30 inch screens ahead of 2025 launch

BYD has revealed the cabin of its third generation Tang electric SUV, featuring a 35.4 inch integrated display and a 30 inch panoramic screen, ahead of its sale later this year. The five seat flagship model, first shown at the Chengdu Auto Show in August, is equipped with Blade Batteries 2.0 and Flash Charging technology that enables charging from 10% to 70% in as little as 5 minutes. The vehicle offers over 1,000 mm of second row legroom and will be available in two interior colour schemes.

Why it matters

BYD's rapid charging capability and premium interior design signal intensifying competition in the electric SUV segment, potentially influencing charging infrastructure requirements for high power delivery. Fleet operators and charging point operators may need to prepare for vehicles capable of accepting ultra fast charging rates to support the 5 minute top up times BYD is targeting.

Leapmotor B03X launches in Australia from $29,990, undercutting BYD Atto 2

Chinese EV maker Leapmotor will launch its B03X electric SUV in Australia in November 2025, priced from $29,990 drive away, below the 2026 BYD Atto 2 Dynamic. The B03X Style offers 292 km WLTP range from a 39.8 kWh LFP battery and 130 kW motor, while the Design LR variant extends range to 382 km with a 53 kWh battery and 145 kW motor. Both variants support DC fast charging at up to 100 kW and 133 kW respectively, charging from 30 to 80 per cent in around 16 minutes, and include 3.3 kW vehicle to load capability.

Why it matters

The sub $30,000 price point and fast charging capability may accelerate demand for home and workplace charging infrastructure in Australia's small SUV segment. Fleet operators and charging network planners should monitor uptake of this model as it competes directly with BYD in the budget EV market.

Suzuki launches e SKY mini EV at $13,500 with BYD batteries, undercutting BYD's own Racco

Suzuki will launch the e SKY, its first electric kei car, on 16 November at around 2.12 million yen ($13,500), narrowly undercutting BYD's Racco EV at 2.145 million yen ($13,600) to become Japan's cheapest mini EV, according to Nikkei. The e SKY offers a WLTC range of up to 310 km (192 miles) and uses lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by BYD's battery unit. With potential government subsidies of 568,000 yen, the e SKY could cost about the same as Suzuki's petrol Spacia, which starts at 1.53 million yen (slightly under $10,000).

Why it matters

Ultra-low-cost EVs like the e SKY signal intensifying price competition in Japan's kei segment, where affordability and subsidy eligibility will shape fleet and consumer adoption. Procurement teams evaluating light commercial or urban fleets should monitor whether similar pricing and BYD battery partnerships emerge in other markets.
