The investment aims to triple the business over the next two years while expanding charging infrastructure and potentially creating 12,000 to 15,000 jobs.

On 7 June the Mexican government revealed the Olinia Uno, a domestically developed electric vehicle prototype targeting a June 2027 commercial launch at MXN 150,000 (US$8,590). Developed by the National Polytechnic Institute and National Technological Institute with over 80 researchers in Puebla, the six seat urban EV features a 14.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, 125 kilometre range, 50 km/h top speed, and NACS compatibility. The vehicle charges via standard 110V and 220V wall outlets in four to eight hours and includes wheelchair accommodation and IP67 water resistance.

Why it matters: A state backed EV programme in Mexico signals potential public procurement demand and new charging infrastructure requirements for low cost urban mobility, particularly for standard outlet and NACS compatible charging solutions.
