UK battery storage and EV charging firm Zenobē has bought Bavaria based SDP Energie, announced 27 July, gaining six transmission level battery projects totalling 1.75GW in Germany and access to a broader 4GW development pipeline. The deal combines SDP's local regulatory and grid knowledge with Zenobē's UK track record in large scale BESS, including grid forming services at Scottish sites and the 200MW/800MWh Coalburn project, the UK's first 4 hour battery system.
Why it matters: The acquisition signals cross border consolidation in utility scale storage, relevant to EV charging operators because transmission BESS can stabilise grids under growing electrification load and because Zenobē operates in both sectors. Germany's shift towards 4 hour projects and wholesale trading mirrors trends that will shape grid capacity available for depot and corridor charging infrastructure.
