France unveils 500 euro home charger subsidy from January 2027, funded by energy suppliers under CEE scheme
The French government announced on 15 October at the Mondial de l'Auto a 500 euro flat rate subsidy for home charger installations, effective from 1 January 2027. Energy Minister Maud Bregeon confirmed the grant will be financed through energy suppliers via the certificats d'économies d'énergie (CEE) mechanism, not the state budget. The 500 euro figure matches the cap of the previous tax credit scheme, which ended on 31 December 2025 and covered 75% of purchase and installation costs up to that limit.
Why it matters
The shift from tax credits to a CEE funded model changes the commercial landscape for installers and charge point suppliers, who must now navigate energy supplier partnerships rather than direct state reimbursement. Cumulative eligibility conditions are expected to sharply limit the addressable market, potentially dampening installation volumes from 2027 onwards.
