OMODA and JAECOO offer free Octopus home charger or £1,000 public charging credit with E5 purchases
OMODA and JAECOO have partnered with Octopus Energy to give private buyers of a new OMODA E5 or JAECOO E5 in the UK a choice of a free Octopus Energy smart EV charger with standard installation (worth up to £1,029) or £1,000 in public charging credit through the Octopus Electroverse network. The offer applies to eligible orders placed between 9 October 2026 and 31 March 2027 at participating UK retailers. The announcement cites RAC Fuel Watch data putting average unleaded petrol at 174.71 pence per litre in October 2026, and Octopus says home charging can save up to 85% against petrol, depending on tariff, vehicle efficiency and driving habits.
Why it matters
Bundling a home charger or roaming credit at the point of vehicle sale shows OEMs and energy suppliers competing to own the customer's charging relationship, which could shift home charger demand towards Octopus hardware. The £1,000 Electroverse credit also steers public charging spend onto one roaming network, which is worth tracking for CPOs weighing roaming partnerships.
Omoda C7 shown at ACE 2026 in Malaysia, with 1.6T petrol and 1.5T plug-in hybrid versions open for booking
At the paultan.org Auto Car Expo 2026, published on 31 October 2026, the Omoda C7 was displayed at the Omoda and Jaecoo booth, with test drives available. Bookings have been open since August, with estimated prices of RM160k for the petrol (ICE) version and RM180k for the PHEV, both locally assembled (CKD) in Shah Alam. The PHEV pairs a 156 PS 1.5 litre turbo engine with a 204 PS front electric motor for 360 PS and 530 Nm combined, and uses a BYD-sourced 18.3 kWh Blade LFP battery for a 95 km EV-only range and 1,250 km combined range.
Why it matters
A locally assembled PHEV at about RM180k with a 95 km electric range adds to the plug-in vehicles that Malaysian drivers will charge at home, at work and en route. CPOs and site hosts should note the 18.3 kWh battery, which points to AC charging demand rather than DC fast charging.
