Walmart reaches 100 DC fast-charging sites in the United States, doubling network in 2.5 months

Walmart has deployed 100 DC fast-charging locations with 838 individual stalls across the United States, doubling its network from 50 sites in May 2026 to 100 by mid-July 2026. The retailer may reach 200 stations by the end of 2026 if the current expansion rate continues, according to network tracker Landon West.

Why it matters

The rapid deployment pace demonstrates a scalable retail-anchored charging model that CPOs and site hosts can benchmark. Walmart's acceleration signals growing confidence in the business case for high-volume, destination-based DC fast-charging infrastructure.

WestLight Energy installs 200 Level 1 chargers at California apartment complex

WestLight Energy, the public electricity provider for San Mateo County and Los Baños, has completed a retrofit at Peninsula Pines Apartments in South San Francisco, installing individual Level 1 EV chargers for all 200 plus residents. GoPower acted as technical partner, supplying equipment, installation and ongoing operation and maintenance. The project applies WestLight's strategy of deploying Level 1 charging where appropriate, complemented by Level 2 and DC fast chargers where higher capacity is needed, with the aim of making EV ownership accessible to renters and lower income families.

Why it matters

The project demonstrates a scalable, low cost model for multi family charging procurement, using Level 1 infrastructure to serve all residents at a fraction of typical costs. For CPOs and property developers, it shows how public agencies and technical partners can collaborate to deliver turnkey charging solutions that prioritise access over speed.

EVgo Q2 2026 loss widens to $0.15 per share as revenue falls 16% to $82.6M

EVgo reported a Q2 2026 net loss of $46.3M, or $0.15 per share, missing Wall Street estimates of $0.12 per share, according to AlphaStreet Intelligence. Total revenue declined 16% year on year from $98.0M to $82.6M, though the charging network segment grew 19% to $61.4M. The per share loss deepened 50% from $0.10 in Q2 2025.

Why it matters

The widening loss and revenue decline signal financial pressure for one of the largest US public charging operators, even as core network revenue grows 19%, suggesting ancillary streams or one off factors dragged overall performance. Procurement teams and investors will watch whether EVgo can sustain network expansion while narrowing losses in a competitive market.

Tennessee awards 2.7 million dollars for 22 EV chargers at eight sites, none in northeast region

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation announced in July that it awarded approximately 2.7 million dollars in Volkswagen Diesel Settlement Environmental Mitigation Trust grant funding for 22 electric vehicle charging units across eight sites statewide, with the nearest to Northeast Tennessee located in Clairborne County. The funding is part of the Fast Charge TN Network, a partnership between TDEC and Tennessee Valley Authority, which had 10 charging stations northeast of Knoxville as of July 2026, representing about 22 per cent of the state network. Some projects from the first funding round announced in 2022 remain in development.

Why it matters

The 2.7 million dollar allocation demonstrates continued state investment in highway charging infrastructure through settlement funds, though the geographic distribution leaves gaps in Northeast Tennessee. Procurement teams and CPOs should note that earlier 2022 awards are still being built out, signalling potential delays in project timelines for state funded networks.
