Maryland awards $3.7 million for 24 fast-charging ports across five counties
Maryland has conditionally awarded five public fast-charging projects that will add 24 ports in Prince George's, Frederick, Montgomery, Charles and Baltimore counties, with Tesla, ElectraStop and Universal EV among the recipients. The projects will receive approximately $3.7 million in federal NEVI funding plus around $918,000 in private matching funds, with stations expected to open by late 2028. Since Maryland launched its NEVI programme in 2024, 70 public fast-charging ports have opened and another 104 from earlier rounds remain in the pipeline, according to Baltimore Fishbowl.
Why it matters
The awards signal continued NEVI deployment momentum in Maryland, with a clear pipeline of 128 ports (104 plus 24) for charge point operators and contractors to deliver over the next three years. The mix of fuel forecourt sites (Exxon, BP, Wawa) and hospitality locations (Hyatt Center, Holiday Inn Express) shows diversified site partnerships that procurement teams can replicate in other states.
Denver Public Schools installs 650 kW Kempower charging system for 28 electric school buses
Denver Public Schools has deployed a Kempower distributed charging system at its Hilltop Bus Terminal to support a fleet of 28 electric school buses, including 25 newly added Blue Bird Vision models. The installation, led by electrical solutions provider Winn-Marion, comprises 650 kilowatts of total power delivered through 13 dual-port Kempower Satellite dispensers, providing 26 charging plugs with dynamic power distribution. PowerFlex (formerly The Mobility House) supplied smart charging and energy management technology for the project, announced in August 2026.
Why it matters
The project demonstrates a scalable depot charging model for school districts electrifying fleets, with distributed architecture allowing dynamic power sharing across multiple vehicles to meet tight operational schedules. It highlights Kempower's growing presence in the US school bus segment and the role of integrators like Winn-Marion in delivering turnkey charging solutions for public sector clients.
