Arizona opens first three NEVI funded fast charging stations after Trump freeze disrupted wider rollout

Arizona has brought online its first three NEVI funded DC fast charging stations in Tucson, Green Valley and Wellton, the initial sites in a plan to deploy up to 79 stations statewide using $76.5 million in federal funding. The state began taking bids in January 2024 and awarded contracts in August 2024, with construction starting in early 2026. A February 2025 Trump administration funding freeze suspended new NEVI commitments and led Arizona to cancel a solicitation for 35 additional charging locations, though reimbursements under existing agreements continued.

Why it matters

The three station opening marks Arizona's first operational delivery under a major federal charging programme, but the cancellation of 35 further sites shows how federal policy shifts can directly halt state level procurement pipelines. CPOs and contractors now face uncertainty over the pace and scope of future NEVI work in Arizona and other states affected by the funding suspension.

Tesla adds solar and tariff aware charging to Gen 3 Wall Connector via Powerwall integration

Tesla's firmware version 26.34 enables its Gen 3 Wall Connector to coordinate with Powerwall systems for smart charging based on solar generation and utility rates. In Savings mode, the charger uses time of use tariffs and solar output to schedule low cost charging, while Self Powered mode directs surplus solar to the vehicle battery. The feature extends to older Powerwall 2 units as well as newer installations.

Why it matters

Home charging hardware that responds to solar availability and dynamic tariffs could reduce grid demand during peak periods and improve the business case for residential solar plus storage installations. For CPOs and installers, it signals growing integration between vehicle charging, energy storage and tariff optimisation in the domestic segment.

New York City awards it's electric $60.2 million to expand curbside charging from 88 to 700 points

New York City has selected Brooklyn based company it's electric to grow the PlugNYC curbside charging network from 88 charging points to 700 across more than 10 neighborhoods including Washington Heights, Forest Hills and the Upper West Side. The deal comprises a $55.3 million installation contract and a $4.9 million operations contract, targeting areas with high concentrations of taxi and rideshare drivers and limited off street parking. Each station will feature at least two charging posts with two charging points each, supporting the city's net zero emissions goal by 2050 announced in August.

Why it matters

The $60.2 million contract signals major municipal procurement for street level charging infrastructure in dense urban areas where private garage access is limited. CPOs and installers should note the focus on multi point stations and the operational contract structure, though planners must balance charging rollout with competing curbside uses such as bike lanes and bus lanes.

Priority Bicycles launches E-Sauce electric bike with belt drive and single-speed design

New York based Priority Bicycles has introduced the E-Sauce, an electric version of its Sauce pedal bike, featuring a single-speed Gates carbon belt drive system. The company, founded in Manhattan over a decade ago, has built its reputation on low maintenance components and bike shop quality construction before expanding into electrification. Priority reports the original Sauce model found wider appeal than expected due to its versatility across city streets and trails.

Why it matters

The launch signals continued market expansion by established bicycle manufacturers into electric mobility, with Priority's focus on low maintenance belt drive systems potentially reducing operational costs for fleet operators or shared mobility schemes considering simpler e-bike designs.

Stellantis CEO pledges continued US EV rollout despite $26 billion write-off and shift to consumer demand focus

Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed at the Paris Motor Show that the automaker will introduce new electric vehicles for the US market, despite EVs representing just 6.4% of sales in Q3 and a $26 billion financial hit from EV related write-offs in 2025, primarily in North America. The commitment comes as part of the FaSTLAne 2030 strategy launched in May 2026, which tailors product output to regional markets and emphasises consumer demand over regulatory compliance. Filosa's remarks follow the December 2024 resignation of former CEO Carlos Tavares and a renewed focus on internal combustion engine powertrains.

Why it matters

A major automaker reaffirming US EV investment after massive write-offs signals continued OEM demand for charging infrastructure, even as the strategy pivots to consumer led rather than regulation driven deployment. The regional tailoring approach may influence where and how charging networks expand to support Stellantis vehicles.

GM unveils electric drive Silverado 3500 dually chassis for US military autonomous vehicle

General Motors has revealed the UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle), a cab-less autonomous platform built on an electric drive Silverado 3500 HD dual rear wheel chassis for military logistics and casualty evacuation. The system features a 102 kWh battery pack, silent electric propulsion, and an onboard 186 hp 2.8 litre Duramax turbo diesel engine to recharge the battery and provide vehicle to load and vehicle to grid capabilities. GM's development of an extended range electric one ton pickup chassis for military use signals potential future applications for commercial work fleets.

Why it matters

The electric drive 3500 dually architecture demonstrates GM's capability to deliver heavy duty electric or extended range electric platforms that could address commercial fleet procurement needs for work trucks with vehicle to grid functionality. Military vehicle development often precedes commercial rollout, suggesting this technology may become available to fleet operators requiring silent operation and onboard power generation.

New Hampshire town converts capped landfill into 2.25 megawatt solar project with $4 million savings forecast

Derry, New Hampshire, has commissioned a 2.25 megawatt solar installation on a closed municipal landfill, developed by Encore Renewable Energy. The project is expected to reduce taxpayer funded electricity costs by approximately $4 million over 25 years, according to Solar Power World Online. The initiative was driven by the volunteer Derry NetZero Task Force over six years, including energy audits of 40 town and school buildings.

Why it matters

The project demonstrates how municipalities can repurpose unused land assets to cut operational energy costs, potentially informing procurement strategies for public sector EV charging infrastructure on similar sites. It also highlights the role of community led task forces in advancing local energy transition projects that reduce long term public expenditure.

California reports nearly 12,000 first-time EV buyers claimed rebates as state reaches 47% of 2030 charging target

California's MyFirstEV rebate programme has been used by nearly 12,000 first-time buyers since August, according to a 16 October state announcement. The scheme offers $3,500 toward new EVs priced up to $50,000 or $1,750 toward used plug-ins up to $25,000, with automakers matching the state's $135.5 million contribution to create a $270 million pool. The California Energy Commission also released new projections showing the state has roughly 47% of the public and shared charging ports it projects it will need by 2030, with funding prioritising fast chargers and access near homes and apartment buildings.

Why it matters

The 47% charging infrastructure figure underscores the scale of deployment still required to meet 2030 targets, signalling sustained procurement opportunities for charge point operators and installers. State funding priorities for fast chargers and residential or multi-dwelling access point to where public and private sector investment will concentrate over the next six years.
