Noida Authority to deploy 50 electric buses on four routes from next month

By Eve

Noida Authority and UPSRTC will launch 50 electric buses next month on four routes from Botanical Garden bus stand, serving destinations including Noida International Airport and Greater Noida West. A depot in Sector 90 will house 20 charging stations, a service station and driver facilities, with four opportunity charging stations at Botanical Garden for en route top ups. UPSRTC will operate the service while Noida Authority funds the viability gap, aiming to ease congestion in a city with over 1.2 million registered vehicles.

Why it matters: The rollout creates immediate demand for 24 charging points across two sites, with the Sector 90 depot requiring full depot charging infrastructure and the Botanical Garden stand needing fast opportunity chargers. The viability gap funding model signals potential for similar public transport electrification projects across Indian cities where fare revenues alone cannot sustain operations.
